Mobile Roaming Charges Cut

How Charges Have Changed

The cost of mobile phone calls in the eurozone has plummeted almost 90% since a sliding scale of charges came in almost ten years ago.In 2007, the first EU cap set the cost of calls at 33p a minute. And the price of sending a text has crashed by 77% from 9p when it was capped in 2009 to 2p today. Mobile roaming charges cut in EU

Roaming Data typically caused the biggest bill shock when holidaymakers have returned home, but this has tumbled by almost 93% from 56p inn 2012 to an average of 4p per MB of data.

And costs will be further improved from June next year when the EU scraps roaming charges completely as smartphone users pay the same rates across the eurozone as at home.

What about roaming in the rest of the world?

This is improving all the time too, albeit still significantly more cost than roaming in the EU.  As an example, if you were to visit the USA and were on O2, you now get 200Mb of data for only £7.50 per day, which is quite a drop from the old charge of £6 per MB.

Users now also have access to a multitude of apps to achieve VoIP calls at essentially no charge (such as O2 TuGo), as well as enterprise mobility solutions from the likes of ShoreTel (ShoreTel Mobility)

It’s not easy keeping up to speed with changes in the mobile world, but that’s one of the reasons people trust Marlin Communications with their business communications.
